Oenone was a nymph (some sources say mountain, some say water) born to the River God Cebren on Mount Ida, a mountain associated with the mother goddess Cybele. According to Wikipedia her name is associated with the art of making wine. However, history commonly claims her as a nymph known for her extraordinary healing powers and psychic abilities.
The Trojan prince Paris fell inlove with her while he was a shepard on Mount Ida. Despite Oenone's psychic ability to see that he would one day leave her for another woman, she still gave into his charms and they were married on Mount Ida. They had a son named Corythus. Some stories say Oenone told Paris of her prophecy - that he would one day leave her for another woman. She also told him that he would be badly wounded and that she would be the only one capable of healing him when that time came.
Eventually of course Paris deserted Oenone for Helen and started the Trojan War. It seems very possible based on sources that she was out of harm's way during the war since she lived amongst the nymphs in Mount Ida. However, when Paris was badly wounded from an inflicted arrow he returned to Oenone. Some sources claimed she refused to heal him immediately (but intended to) as punishment for his desertion. Others state she had no intention to and sent him away when he came begging. After he died, legend says that she was overcome with grief and she committed suicide by leaping into his burning funeral pyre.
